Stoneywood Dyce Cricket Club - Grades vs Gordonians on 22nd July, 2017

Possibly the youngest side put out in the Grades this year turned up at Countesswells to play Gordonians.

Knowing that a good performance was needed to keep ourselves at the top of the table, the captain did the first bit right in winning the toss and putting the opposition in to bat. Ross and Euan opened and bowled good lines causing both batsmen to play and miss a few times. Euan took the first wicket, Adrian catching a rebound from Martin at slip, then Martin took another good catch to give Fraser a wicket.

The captain then picked up 3, Martin and Adrian both taking good catches before Euan bowled Gordonians second top scorer for 19. Unfortunately for us, Gordonians captain, Chamila Perera was having a good day with the bat and was hitting the ball powerfully to all parts of the ground. He only gave one very difficult chance before getting to his hundred with a 6. Martin took a good diving catch and the McLeans combined for a run out as Gordonians finished on 217-8 with Chamila finishing on 117no.

We knew we would have to bat well to be in with a chance and when Stuart took 2 4s off the 3rd over, we looked like there might be a possibility. That was as good as it got though and against some steady bowling with a bit of swing, we subsided to our lowest total of the season to lose by a darts maximum of runs.

This kind of day happens from time to time and we need to put it behind us and focus on next week's game against 2nd Knightriders.

Gordonians CC MoM: For his hundred, Gordonians captain Chamila Perera.
