Stoneywood Dyce Cricket Club - Grades vs Grampian CC on 6th May, 2017

Grades start with a convincing win.

The Grade 2 side opened the 2017 season at a sunny but not particularly warm Duthie Park against Grade 2 newcomers, Grampian, who had achieved promotion in each of their 2 previous seasons. The captain duly lost the toss and we were invited to bat. Jawad and Eddie went out to open and both started well, Eddie hitting 4 fours in one over. They took the score to 42 before Jawad was caught and Stuart followed shortly after. Mark and Eddie pushed the score along assisted
by some indifferent fielding and Eddie got to 40 before being well caught at long on. Both Farhad and Adrian helped Mark add a few and then Jack joined his dad for the partnership that took the game away from Grampian. Jack played some lovely shots while Mark put away the bad balls and some good ones too. Their
partnership passed 100 before Jack was caught for 37 and Mark completed a well deserved century before a late order collapse saw the last 3 wickets falling at the same score. We finished on 214 – a total that we hoped would be enough.

We knew that we would have to bowl and field well as Grampian had some dangerous batsmen but the captain and Jon both bowled tight opening spells to put the pressure on the batsmen. The captain took the first wicket courtesy of a catch by Jawad but it was the introduction of the change bowlers that made the difference, Ross taking 3 wickets in his 6 over spell and Farhad chipping in with a couple. Bruce took the 7th wicket before Jon came back and finished the match with 3 wickets in 6 balls. Grampian finished on 111.

A good way to start the season – everyone contributed to the win.

Moments of the Match: the look on the captain’s face when he realised Farhad was at the ground and changed BEFORE the game stared (!!!), Mark’s 100th run and the final wicket.
