Stoneywood Dyce Cricket Club - NL vs Glenrothes on 6th July, 2016

On Saturday the National League team played Glenrothes at People’s Park in a must win relegation-battle match.

Skipper Shaun had a bad toss and we were asked to field. We opened with Matt (0-61) and Jan (1-51) and they kept the openers quiet for the first couple of overs before Greaves started to show his class.

Michael (1-40) made the breakthrough with the score on 88 as opener Culley slashed at a ball outside off stump with was well caught by Shaun in first slip.

2 quick wickets fell shortly after as Jamie (2-27) removed Glenrothes OA, Rawling and Scotland u19 player Wilkinson in consecutive overs. After a 60 run partnership, Shaun (2-55) got the 1st of 2 wickets, as Hudson miscued a shot into the hands of OD. Penman followed soon after, also off the bowling of Shaun.

With the score on 199, Aker (2-48) took 2 in 2 removing Wright and then Gosse next ball. Glenrothes 199-7. However, Greaves was still at the crease.

Pro Akbar came to the crease and together with Greaves lashed onto any bad ball bowled to propel Glenrothes’ score to 291 before Greaves departed for a great knock of 139, bowled by Jan to give him a batting average against SDCC of 301.
Glenrothes ended on 291-8 off of their 50 overs.

After a fantastic tea by Michael and family, we went out to chase down 292 to win.

We opened up with Shaun (8) and Brayden (10) and got off to a reasonably good start before Brayden was clean bowled by Akbar. Jack and Shaun followed soon after also bowled by Akbar. After a slight recovery by Matt (9) and Ahklaq (46), Matt and Ewan fell to the bowling of Wright without troubling the scorers. 47-5.

Ahklaq and Andrew (19) then put on a patient partnership of 39 to give us a glimmer of hope before Ahklaq was caught of the bowling of Rawling for a well made 46.

SDCC 86-6.

This brought Owen (14) to the crease and he went on the aggressive early in his innings hitting Crichton for two 4s and a straight 6. His inner Gary Ballance took over soon after though as he was out LBW to become Akbar’s 4th wicket of the day.

Jan (16) and Andrew kept the runs ticking over before we collapsed to 145 all out from 143-7.

Glenrothes win by 146 runs.

The equation for the rest of the season is quite simpel: 3 games left and 3 wins required.

SDCC MoM:Ahklaq for his battling 46.

Glenrothes CC MoM: Greaves for his match-winning 139.
