The NL team headed down to Watsonians on Saturday and turned up to a very green seamer. Watsonians, fielding SDCC alumnis Schlalk and Henk Conradie, won a good toss and batted first.
With Matt picking up 2 early wickets in his first 2 overs, SDCC had them struggling at 12/2. Bringing Schalk to the crease but a short stay it was. Smashing a long half volley straight up, and a brilliant catch to David K, bringing his brother to the crease. Another short stay from Henk after striking at 200, he was removed after smashing a half tracker straight up and another great catch, this time by Aker! Watsonians 43-4. Matt ending up with 4-42 off 6, was somewhat erratic but had us in a good position. Regular wickets fell, after some good spells from Michael 0-48 off 10, Ahklaq 2-22 off 8, and the tightest of the lot, Jamie with a brilliant spell at the end of 3-8 off 4 overs.
Watsonians all out for 124, a very good bowling effort we thought.
However, the deteriorating wicket and ex NZ Test International Andy McKay soon pulled on our hand break, removing Shaun, Matt and Jack in quick succession with some accurate bowling to leave SDCC 17-3.
While Brayden smashed one to short cover, to a great catch. Saw us 18-4.. Regular wickets fell, with only Ewan sticking it out, foy 11 in the end, his 43 balls at the crease could have been crucial, had a top order bat been with him. Well bowled to McKay 3-10 and Versfeld 3-10 and Sadler, H. Conradie and O'Connell picking up a wicket a piece with Schalk picking up 3 cathces and stumping as SDCC ended on 60-10 with 18 overs still remaining.
Another tough outing for the boys, only performing for half the match. Time to score some runs!
Not a bad performance with the ball, showing we can bowl teams out!
Bring on Heriots!
