Stoneywood Dyce Cricket Club

Stoneywood Dyce Cricket Club - SPCU vs Rossie Priory on 23rd July, 2016

Possibly the warmest Saturday of the year so far saw the 2s make the long trip to one of the more picturesque places to play cricket. We left with 9 and acquired a wicketkeeper along the way.

We arrived to find the changing rooms guarded by a couple of Highland cows and, after the captain lost the toss (again), Jack and Connor went out to open the innings. There was a bit of swing and both opening bowlers conceded a few wides. Jack was bowled early on, Connor played a few nice shots before holing out to mid off for 17.

Tariq was LBW and Andrew was bowled by a sharp off spinner before Ryan joined Chris with the score at 61. Both batsmen showed considerable patience and tremendous application to put together a match-winning partnership of 88 against some challenging bowling. Both realised that hitting boundaries was difficult given the length of the outfield and relied on good placement and aggressive running to keep the score moving.

Ryan eventually fell for 42 but Chris carried on to make his first 50 for the club. After Chris was out, the tail wagged briefly, the highlight being a “howk” for 4 by Ian before C Ross took his 4th wicket to close the innings on 173.

We had increased to 11 by the time we took the field after a lovely tea, the Rossie captain allowing Robertson senior to make his 2s debut.

Connor and Ryan opened the bowling and both struck in their first overs, clean bowling the opening batsmen. Both were bowling really well and the Rossie batsmen had no real answer to their pace and accuracy.

The change bowlers, Chris and the captain came on and both also picked up wickets by virtue of bowling straight- the first 8 wickets were all bowled. The captain broke this streak when Andrew caught the opposition captain off a slow full toss and then Ryan came back to take the final wicket with another straight Yorker – Rossie all out for 51 and a win by 122 runs.

A good all round performance – tight, disciplined bowling and good fielding – particular mentions to Scot and John – backing up a patient batting display.

2s 173 (C Garrard 56, R Williams 42; C Ross 4-13) beat Rossie Priory 51 (R Lynch 14; R Williams 4-9, C Garrard 2-8, C Arnold 2-9, R Taylor 2-12) by 122 runs

SDCC MoM: Ryan’s 42 and 4 wickets just pips Chris’s 56 and 2 wickets

Moment of the Match: The final wicket to give us the win
