Stoneywood Cricket Club and Dyce Cricket Club merged in 1991. When the two clubs came together, they fielded teams in Grades One and Four of the Aberdeenshire Grades. In 1994, the club entered the Strathmore and Perthshire Union and won it in both 1996 and 1997, with the latter triumph being followed by success in a play-off to enter the Scottish National Cricket Leagues. A successful 1998 saw the club reach the dizzy heights of the SNCL Premier League for the 1999 season. Following many reorganisations of the SNCL and such since, the club’s 1st XI now plies its trade in the Eastern Premier League, which is the highest tier in Scottish cricket. We also have a 2nd XI in the Strathmore and Perthshire Cricket Union (SPCU) Championship, and a 3rd XI in Grade Two of the Aberdeenshire Grades. We also have a Sunday XI who play in the SPCU Development league for teams from the North.
Alongside the progress of the senior sides, we have a thriving and vibrant junior section. Led by Jan Stander, an ECB Level 3 coach and ex-Scotland cricketer, this involves junior training every Friday night at Peoples Park during the season. We also run sessions through the winter months using an indoor facility. We also run very successful AllStars and Dynamos programmes aimed at 5-8 year olds and 8-11 year olds respectively, which has around 50 kids participating every week! This is ran alongside junior training on a Friday night at the club.
The club has had remarkable success at Junior Representative Levels since Stuart Coetzer was the first to make the breakthrough into the Scotland U13 side in 1995. Further evidence of the club’s success and of the commitment of it’s youngsters came when Kyle Coetzer joined the Academy at Durham County Cricket Club in 2003 and made his senior debut for Scotland, Kyle went on to make his First Class debut for Durham in 2004 and was followed into the Scotland side by Gordon Goudie then older brother Stuart Coetzer. Gordon joined the MCC Young Cricketers set up in 2005 and played for Middlesex CCC 2nd XI in 2006. Also add Scott Redhead joining the Durham Academy in 2007, the appointment in 2008 of Fiona Urquhart as captain of the Scotland Ladies side and Michael Leask making his debut for Scotland in 2014. All of these players benefited from the sound cricket structure at SDCC to take their first steps on their cricketing journey. To this day the club still produces players of an International standard. Jack Lambley and Ross Kennard are both home grown talents and have represented Scotland at u17 level. We also have a fantastic record for having players in the Caledonian Highlanders regional team at various different levels, with 1st XI captain Jamie King in the full team. The club is incredibly proud of the talent it has produced and continues to produce!
